How is the order of the featured pets on the main page determined?

The order is determined by the amount of request of each pet for the previous month. If the request for a group of pets is equal, then overall requests is used to determine the order from there. The "Pet of the Day" is an editor selection of an interesting pet that may have been overlooked in the stats. Space is reserved at the top of the featured pet list for new pets recently submitted. Lately since there are only so many pets, the order has been set to random.
